The existing First Savings Bank building did not function well for its use. It had been repurposed several times previous, had no sense of entry, and loan producers were located on the upper level. However, the site was desirable because of its excellent visibility along its adjacent busy traffic corridor and easy access to the Interstate. For this reason, the client engaged AO to design a replacement facility on the one-acre site.
The new building was orientated with the main identifiable entry addressing the intersection and the drive-up lanes on the opposite side. The interior is organized around a central atrium with a clerestory roof that allows for diffused light to illuminate the banking hall. Offices and conference rooms flank the atrium and provide for visual security on the teller line and other banking functions. Back-of-house functions are hidden from the main banking hall.
